The history about BORNUS

The Botswana Retired Nurses Society (BORNUS) is a local non-governmental organization with a countrywide membership of retired nurses. The organisation was set up in 1999 but officially registered in 2003 with the Registrar of Societies. BORNUS exists to provide transformative HIV/AIDS education and community health care services as well as skills development to improve the quality of life of the communities it serves. This is currently carried out through in three (3) operational branches; Tlokweng, its headquarters, Kanye and Kgatleng District, operating in three villages which are Morwa, Pilane and Bokaa.

As a Community Based Organisation, BORNUS draws its expertise in service from a pool of experienced nurses, social workers and other professionals who are an integral part of the community where they work. They therefore understand sensitive and health issues in the community and are able to design interventions that are appropriate but also culturally acceptable.
